Egypt under Roman Rule
We’ve advertised our AGM and symposium (AEGYPTUS: Egypt under Roman Rule) via our fall mailing, and by SSEAmembers yahoogroup, but some of you may not have got the information yet. Therefore, we’ll just post a recap.
In the Symposium, scheduled speakers include Prof. Janice Yellin of Babson College, on Egypt and Nubia; Dr. Emily Cole of ISAW; and Dr. Gregory Dundas, whose dissertation was entitled “Pharaoh, Basileus and Imperator: The Roman Imperial Cult in Egypt”.
Two events which are not part of the symposium/colloquium proper are also scheduled: A lecture on the digital unwrapping of a Graeco-Roman mummy by Nancy Lovell (Emeritus of U. of Alberta), to take place on Thursday the 2nd of November, and another lecture for Monday, Nov 6th: SSEA TORONTO CHAPTER (LOCAL) LECTURE “Dialogue or coercion: social pressure in Ancient Egypt” by Guillaume Bouchard Labonté (PhDc, UQAM)
The Thursday night lecture is in memory of Sally Katary.
